Tip Off for Tom is an annual spring fundraising event inspired by Tom Irelan’s love of basketball.

Glioblastoma took Tom from us far too soon, leaving a deep void in our close-knit family. Tom was diagnosed in January 2023 and bravely fought the disease for two years, before he passed in February 2025.

At the time of his diagnosis, Tom had a stroke and underwent surgery to remove his first tumor. While recovering from brain surgery, he also re-learned how to walk, as he embraced the attitude of living as much life as he could with the people he loved. In the two years Tom lived with glioblastoma, he was kind, funny, and gracious with his time. He attended concerts and cheered at Ohio State football and basketball games. Most of all, he spent many nights with his family and friends around a dinner table, laughing and sharing stories.

We created Tip Off for Tom to honor his life and to help fund research that brings hope to families facing this devastating disease. Tom was the best husband, dad, uncle, brother, and friend. We miss him so much.

Thank you for being part of our team. We are incredibly grateful for all of your support!
